This documentary explores the rich history of Islam in Pittsburgh, PA, home of the First Muslim Mosque, the first mosque in the United States to be chartered by indigenous Muslims. It also explores the indigenous community\'s evolution through groups such as the Moorish Science Temple, the Ahmadiyah, and the Nation of Islam. In closing, the film looks at the recent influx of immigrant Muslims in the community, and their intermingling, and also examines problems that we face today, and in the future.
Part two of this documentary looks at the Nation of Islam\'s relationship in Pittsburgh, including frequent visits by Malcolm X, and the nation\'s evolution toward a more traditional Islam.
Finally, the film moves to the 70\'s and early 80\'s, when immigrant Muslims began to intermingle with indigenous Muslims and form their own communities. Also, time is spent to look at Muslims\' current situation in Pittsburgh and search for solutions to improve the Muslim community.

Why did you choose the topic of Hijab?
The hijab is a very sensitive issue for women. It can be very awkward for one sister to tell another sister that she isnt wearing it properly but it is even more difficult for a brother to say anything. Sometimes it is easier hearing it from someone who doesnt know you (thats me) so thats why I took the opportunity that I have with this video series to do an episode on Hijab.

Our aim for this documentary is to allow for greater understanding between Muslim and non-Muslim community in the university environment and even within the local community. Finally we believe that as we have co-existed in both the Muslim and non-Muslim world we can bridge these gaps in communication and understanding with this documentary which has previously not been done.
