Al-Aqsa mosque is one of the most holy mosques to Muslims, it is the first Qiblah(the direction where the Muslims face when they pray". Allah the Almighty said in Surat Al-Israa : Glorified (and Exalted ) be He (Allah) [above all that (evil) they associate with him ]who took his Slave Muhammad for a Journey by night from Al Masjied Alharam (at Makkah) To Almasjid Al-Aqsa in Jerusalem , the neighborhood whereof we have blessed , in order that we might show him (Muhammad pbuh ) of our Ayat ( proofs , evidences , lessons , signs etc ) Verily , he is the All hearer , The All seer.
The name of the place Al-Aqsa was termed by Allah in the holy Qur'an. The meaning of this name Al-Aqsa is "The place that is far from Mecca and Medina.
