The wearing of the veil in Islam has been misunderstood by the West and in some cases by Muslims themselves. A modern example of the ignorance of the hijab can be seen in France\'s new laws banning the hijab, stripping Muslim girls of their God-given right. The focal point for this project will be to produce a better understanding of the hijab and the issues surrounding it. With this in mind we will briefly address the following issues throughout the documentary: The rationale behind the hijab: why do Muslim females wear the hijab? Oppression of women in Islam? A cultural or religious influence? Are Muslim women oppressed?
